Measure forests, soil and city climate far from any power line

Climate research and city networks need readings from many places, most of them far from mains power, and data collected by hand is days old. CHESTER measures on site on batteries and sends every reading over NB-IoT or LTE-M.

  1. Weather

CHESTER Meteo measures wind, rain, pressure, temperature and humidity.

    • One station
  2. Soil and trees

CHESTER reads our capacitive soil-moisture sensor and a dendrometer.

    • Tree growth
  3. Networks

One CHESTER reads Bluetooth tags, so it serves several points nearby.

    • Up to eight tags

Reference

Forest Research measures the climate in British forests

Each CHESTER carries a temperature and humidity sensor, our soil-moisture sensor and a dendrometer, reports over Vodafone’s NB-IoT network and feeds the researchers’ Grafana, REST API and CSV exports. We also service a city climate network of Bluetooth tags, weather stations and soil probes.

“This project has the potential to significantly streamline how we collect and analyze data, and to gather far more of it from sites we couldn’t easily reach before.”
