HARDWARIO supplies field-ready meter interfaces and cellular connectivity. Your integration team owns the compliance workflow, application, data, and rollout.

Energy & Utilities IoT Solutions
The Reality

Common challenges

EED compliance deadlines approaching with no solution in place

Manual meter reading is expensive and error-prone

Leaks and losses go undetected for weeks

Limited visibility into distributed infrastructure

Aging metering infrastructure without remote connectivity

Multi-utility metering with incompatible protocols

Cost of inaction

Waiting makes every manual reading cycle more expensive.

Energy and utility buyers usually arrive with a deadline, an audit requirement, or a rising operating cost. Make the business case visible before they ask for a demo.

Review your project

Compliance pressure builds

EED and reporting workflows need reliable remote data and exportable records. A late project leaves teams chasing spreadsheets.

Manual reading does not scale

Field routes, re-reads, access issues, and transcription errors compound across buildings, substations, and tenant portfolios.

Leaks stay invisible

Water, heat, and gas losses often surface after the invoice arrives. Remote monitoring makes exceptions visible while there is still time to act.

Use cases

How We Help

Remote Meter Reading

Remote Meter Reading

Collect supported wM-Bus T1/C1 meter telegrams with NB-IoT or LTE-M backhaul. Site capacity depends on meter behavior, radio conditions, and reporting design.

Leak & Anomaly Data Collection

Leak & Anomaly Data Collection

Collect flow and pressure signals that the partner-owned application can evaluate against customer-defined leak, backflow, and usage rules.

Substation & Asset Monitoring

Substation & Asset Monitoring

Collect transformer temperature, load, and pump-station status for limits, interpretation, and alerts defined in the partner-owned application.

Energy Sub-metering

Energy Sub-metering

Collect consumption by building, floor, or tenant and pass it to the customer workflow that implements allocation, reporting, and efficiency logic.

Recommended architecture

Your metering solution on a field-ready foundation.

You own protocol mapping, customer logic, data destination, and compliance claims. HARDWARIO supplies documented field interfaces, cellular connectivity, and open integration paths.

01 Your team

Map meters and protocols

Group the estate by supported wM-Bus T1/C1, Modbus RS-485, or pulse interfaces and define the data and compliance boundary for the pilot.

02 CHESTER

Collect readings at the edge

Use CHESTER variants for wM-Bus, Modbus energy metering, current sensing, or pulse inputs without replacing existing meters.

03 EMBER

Choose the right backhaul

Use CHESTER over NB-IoT or LTE-M. Where LoRaWAN devices are part of a separate design, EMBER provides a private gateway with Ethernet or LTE backhaul.

04 Your application

Deliver data where it is used

Deliver readings to the billing, ESG, or utility system you own. Supported Cloud paths provide REST API, webhooks, and data export.

"We have hundreds of boiler houses and heat exchanger stations under our management. Connecting them to the Internet of Things brings savings to our customers and substantially increases the efficiency of our work. HARDWARIO is undoubtedly the right partner for us."

Proof points

Use concrete deployment evidence to reduce buyer risk.

Energy buyers need proof that the solution handles distributed infrastructure, standard protocols, and long operating windows.

T1 + C1

wM-Bus modes

CHESTER wM-Bus supports the two documented collection modes.

NB-IoT / LTE-M

documented backhaul

Select the cellular path during site and operator review.

Up to 8

Modbus devices

CHESTER Modbus, Serial, and Energy configurations support up to eight devices.

Customer proof

Results buyers can verify

Energy and utility operators

Remote meter data instead of manual reading rounds

Before
Meter readings were fragmented across buildings, boiler rooms, and utility areas, creating manual work and slow compliance reporting.
Deployment
CHESTER meter-reading configurations connected supported wM-Bus, Modbus, or pulse interfaces for forwarding into partner-owned systems.
Result
Teams gained repeatable remote-read architecture without replacing the meter estate or sending staff to every site.

Products for Energy & Utilities

CHESTER

CHESTER

CHESTER is our modular industrial IoT platform with cellular IoT, LoRaWAN, and BLE connectivity - battery-powered for years and field-proven down to -40°C in Canadian winters.

EMBER

EMBER

EMBER is our rugged LoRaWAN gateway for private IoT networks - it connects hundreds of sensors indoors and outdoors, with LTE cellular and Ethernet backhaul.

GAUGER

GAUGER

GAUGER is our industrial IoT counter - it counts pulses from PLCs and industrial sensors for OEE and downtime reporting, and retrofits on a DIN rail without disrupting production.

CLOUD

CLOUD

HARDWARIO Cloud handles secure message passing between your devices and systems - with REST API integration, firmware updates over the air (FOTA), and remote device shell.

Deployment path

Prove one meter group, then make the design repeatable.

A typical scoped catalog pilot can target live data in 2-4 weeks. Custom protocols, firmware, or compliance work are scoped separately.

Week 1

Meter estate review

Confirm meter types, protocols, site access, connectivity, reporting needs, and the first measurable success metric.

Weeks 2-3

Pilot installation

Install gateway hardware on a representative meter group and validate reading reliability, backhaul, and data format.

Weeks 4-6

Integration and reporting

Connect readings to billing, dashboards, or ESG workflows and create the audit trail needed by the buyer.

After validation

Scale by site or meter group

Roll out the proven configuration across buildings, substations, utility rooms, or tenant portfolios.

FAQ

Buyer questions

Do we need to replace existing meters?

Often no. Match the existing meter to a documented wM-Bus T1/C1, Modbus RS-485, or pulse interface during the estate review.

How many meters can one gateway serve?

For wM-Bus, capacity depends on radio conditions, telegram frequency, payload size, and reporting design. CHESTER Modbus, Serial, and Energy configurations support up to eight connected devices.

What happens if cellular coverage is weak?

The deployment can use NB-IoT or LTE-M - or, where the application supports it, a private LoRaWAN network with EMBER - selected during the site and connectivity review.

Can data feed our existing billing or ESG system?

Yes. HARDWARIO Cloud can forward data through APIs, webhooks, and exports so readings can land in the systems the buyer already uses.
